Spider Veins
Spider veins often develop in the face or the legs on people as they age. They are difficult to camouflage with makeup or stockings. Treatment of spider veins has now evolved to sclerotherapy and laser/intense pulse light(IPL.) The treatment choice depends on the location and the size of the veins. The physician will assess your situation and determine the appropriate procedure for your circumstances. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution with a very fine needle into the veins. The solution causes the vein to collapse and fade. Often the laser treatment can be used after the sclerotherapy sessions to clear up any smaller or remaining veins. The laser/IPL is often th choice of treatment for vessels on the face. The laser light pulses heat to the blood in the veins causing the lining to constrict and fade. The fading is gradual and optimal results may require multiple repeated treatments. There is no down time involved with either of these procedures and you are able to return to work or daily activities as usual. However, the wearing of the pressure support stocking after the leg vein procedure is highly recommended.
Non-Ablative Fractional Laser
Laser skin resurfacing can improve the appearance of age spots, sun damage, skin tone and texture, wrinkles, surgical scars, acne scars, and stretch marks. Palomar laser technology has shown to break down facial lines and creases and help generate new skin that's healthier and smoonther. It is a alternative treatment that allows you to recover in a few days while reducing the apprearance of the crow's feet and smooth the lipstick lines. Although mild changes can be appreciated with one session, all studies have shown better results in a series of at least 4 sessions each four weeks apart. Due to the micro-fractional laser technology, most people experience minimal side effects such as temporary redness and swelling which may last a few days. However, there should not be any down time which would interfere with you returning to work. Visit Palomar Medical Technologies for videos of the procedures and the before and after pictures.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Hair Removal
Intense Pulse LIght uses light energy to gently remove unwanted hair. This technology transcends the older, painful hair removal treatments such as plugging, waxing, and electrolysis. IPL can deliver long lasting results as the follicles are injured by the light energy while entering their growth cycle . However, since the hair follicles enter into their growth cycle at different times, multiple treatments are required for optimal results. IPL hair removal is effective on almost any area of the body but optimal long-term benefits depend on the area's hair density and growth cycle as well as the number of treatments received. Often many other factors influence the effectiveness of the procedure such as age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet , medication, and metabolism. Before you undergo IPL hair removal treatments, you should stop plugging or waxing the hair and should not undergo any electrolysis in the prior four weeks. If necessary, shaving of the hair is allowed. Again, we encourage you to visit Palomar Medical Technologies for more information on the procedures.
Photorejuvenation
Over time, the effects of the sun, wind, and time and hormones begin to appear on our skin with fine lines, age spots, and other sun damages. IPL photorejuvenation was designed to combat the skin damage on the surface in a softer, gentler way. The pulsed light treatments help restore a more youthful apperance by minimizing the redness and flushing as seen with rosacea. They also reduce the pore sizes and help fade the sunspots. The targeted tisues absorbs the light's energy to stimulate the formation of new collagen beneath the skin. With each session, you will see the subtle changes with smoother skin, more even skin tone, and healthier-looking skin. These improvements will continue to increase with each treatment.
Chemical Peel Skin Rejuvenation
Chemical peels have been used for over 100 years to removed the dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new skin cells. A chemical peel uses a solution to create a controlled shedding of damaged skin cells from the sun and aging. The peels can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands and even the arms and legs. They can effectively improve a wide variety of skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, shallow acne scars, freckling, and better control of acne. There are different degree of peels that can be performed depending on you skin type and the desired resuts. During your consultation, you and the physician will discuss your skin type and determine if you are a good candidate for the peel. Unlike the photorejevenation performed by the IPL, chemical peels usually will cause redness, swelling, browning, and scaling which can last from 7 to 14 days. So, some downtime will need to be anticipated. Generally, the deeper the peel, the longer the recovery.
Acne Phototherapy
We have traditionally treated acne with topical or systemic oral therapy which have caused unwanted side effects and antibiotic resistance. Phototherapy utilizes light source with specific wavelengths to target the colonized P. Acnes bacteria that is responsible for causing acne and the inflammation under the skin. The treatment allows us to treat patients of all ages and lifestyles safely without any systemic effects. To achieve optimal results, six to eight sessions are recommended. The sessions can be scheduled once or twice a week.
