Pre-op Instructions for Cosmetic Surgeries:
Begin taking Vitamin C 1000 mg. a day 7 days before your surgery.
Do not take any aspirin, Vitamin E, anti-inflammatory agents (Advil, Aleve, Motrin, Ibuprofen) or any herbal supplements 7 days before surgery. If you are taking any blood thinners, please let the doctor know. You’re surgery WILL be canceled due to safety reasons if this isn’t followed.
ALL TUMMY TUCK/ FACE-LIFT/ AND BREAST LIFT PATIENTS MUST BE OFF CIGARETTES AND HORMONES 6 WEEKS BEFORE THEIR SURGERY AND 3 WEEKS AFTER.
At the pre-op visit, you will be given the following medications:
- A sedative- take 1 the night before surgery (right before bed) and 1 on the way to the office.
- An antibiotic- start 24 hours before surgery and continue until the end of the prescription
- A pain medication- bring with you on surgery day. Only take after surgery as needed
- A muscle relaxer- (breast patients only) bring with you on surgery day. Only take after surgery as needed
- An acid reducer- take the night before surgery (right before bed with the sedative) and 1 on the way to the office.
Cosmetic surgeries do require pre-op lab work. The labs will need to be performed 7 days prior to the scheduled surgery date to have the results ready for surgery.
For surgery:
Facial Procedure- you will need to wear a front button-up or wide-neck opening shirt (low neck clothing is best.)
Liposuction/Brazilian buttlift- you should wear loose fitting clothing.
Breast augmentation/Breast augmentation with lift- you should wear a zip-up jacket that is loose, not fitted or a loose button up shirt.
All patients are requested to have no solid food intake after midnight the night prior to the procedure. Please drink plenty of fluids the day prior to surgery. However, no liquids are allowed 8 hours prior to the procedure. (If you are arriving at 8:00 a.m. no fluids after 12:00 a.m.; if you are arriving at 12:00 p.m., no fluids after 4:00 a.m.) Only small sips of water are allowed if you need to take any medication. Please have a phone number for your ride so that we can keep them updated throughout your surgery and notify them towards the end of your procedure.
You will be given an EZ Scrub pad at your pre-op appointment to use the night before surgery for cleansing the surgery areas.
Supplies needed after surgery: 4X4 sterile gauze, Polysporin or Bacitracin Ointment over the counter (DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN!)
For liposuction/brazilian buttlift patients only: Pull up Depends and Sanitary Napkins.
Post-Op Instructions:
Facelift or Necklift
- Sleep or lay down with head elevated at least 30 degrees or higher for first 7 days.
- Do not remove your head wrap. We will remove it for you on first postoperative visit (usually next day after surgery.)
- Afer we remove your head wrap, we will give you a velcro chin wrap to help shape the skin of the face and neck. You will need to wear it 24 hours a day for the first 48 hours, then 10 hours a day for the next 2 weeks.
- For the first 48 hours, use ice packs that we have given you over the facial and neck areas, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. (DO NOT PUT ICE PACKS IN FREEZER/ REFRIGERATE ONLY)
- Take the antibiotic as directed.
- Four (4) times a day, use the polysporin or bacitricin ointment over suture sites to keep them very moist. (DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN!)
- You can clean the areas gently with hydrogen peroxide and q-tips.
- Tylenol or pain medication that Dr. Hah has prescribed you can be used as needed. (NO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICINES FOR 3 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY) These procedures are not usually very painful. If pain on one side continues to worsen despite pain medicine, please call Dr. Hah at the number that will be provided to you.
- No strenuous activity for 10 days.
- No turning of head aggressively for 4 weeks.
- You can wash your hair as you normally would in 48 hours.
Browlift or Eyelid Lifts
- Sleep or lay down with head elevated at least 30 degrees or higher for first 7 days.
- For the first 48 hours, use ice packs over the eye areas, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. (DO NOT PUT ICE PACKS IN FREEZER/ REFRIGERATE ONLY)
- At night or during the day when sleeping, use lacrilube ointment in eyes to keep them moist.
- Three (3) to four (4) times a day, use a wetting eye drop such lubritears to keep eyes very moist.
- Take the antibiotic as directed.
- Three (3) times a day, use the ophthalmic antibiotic ointment over the eyelid sutures to keep them very moist. (DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN!)
- Do not get sutures wet with water until 48 hours later.
- You can clean the sutures very gently with hydrogen peroxide and q-tips.
- Tylenol or pain medicine can be taken as needed.(NO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICINES FOR 3 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY) These procedures are not usually very painful. If pain on one side continues to worsen despite the pain medicine, please call Dr. Hah at the number that will be provided to you.
- No strenuous activity for 10 days.
- You can wash your hair as you normally would in 48 hours.
Liposuction/Liposculpture/ Brazilian Buttlift
- Expect quite a bit of drainage over the first 48 hours from drain sites.
- Use sanitary napkins, Depends garments, during this time while the areas are draining copiously.
- Remove expensive bedding/sheets. Drainage can stain. Use shower curtain or old bedding.
- The lower drain sites will drain more and take longer to close.
- Some areas may continue to drain for several days while other areas dry up.
- Take antibiotic as directed.
- For the first night after your surgery, try to leave absorbent pads and Depends garment in place. We will change you into support garment the next day at the office visit.
- Wear the support garment 24/7 for the first week. Then wear it at least 8 hours a day for the following 2 weeks. Some patients may be encouraged to wear a more flexible elastic girdle type of garment during the latter 2 weeks.
- Getting up and moving around is encouraged.
- Drink a lot of fluids and eat a good diet. Low carbohydrates, good proteins, vegetables, and several (at least 5-6) glasses of water or noncaffeinated drinks a day are encouraged.
- Tylenol or pain medicine as needed. (NO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICINES FOR 3 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY) These procedures are not usually very painful. If pain on one side continues to worsen despite pain medicine, please call the office at 409-883-5600. If urgent, you will be provided with Dr. Hah’s cell number.
- Continue to take Vitamin C during the course of healing.
- You can shower starting the following day. No bathing in a bathtub, swimming or hot tubbing until all of the drain sites have closed.
- Expect the liposuction areas to become firm and hardened over the following weeks. This is normal and a needed part of the inflammatory process for the skin to tighten over the areas. You can massage the areas as tolerated.
- Unlike a tummy tuck where several weeks of physical activity restriction is required, liposuction patients are encouraged to get back to normal activities as soon as possible. Working out, walking, going back to work, shopping, going on trips are all encouraged.
- Walking is very important!!! You must begin walking immediatelly the day after your surgery. Walking 40 minutes a day-5 days a week is highly recommended for superior results. This is especially so during the first 6 weeks. After that, we recommend walking 30 minutes three (3) times a week to maintain your shape.
Lipoabdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck
- Expect quite a bit of drainage over the first 48 hours from drain sites.
- Use sanitary napkins, Depends garments, during this time while the areas are draining copiously.
- Remove expensive bedding/sheets. Drainage can stain. Use shower curtain or old bedding.
- The lower drain sites will drain more and take longer to close.
- If one or more drains have been placed, measure the output 3 times a day and record drainage. Drains usually are removed when the output is less than 30cc’s over 24 hours.
- Some areas may continue to drain for several days while other areas dry up.
- Take your antibiotic as directed.
- For the first night after surgery, try to leave absorbent pads and Depends garment in place. We will change you into a support garment after surgery before you leave to help support the abdominal area.
- Wear the support garment 24/7 for first week. Then at least 8 hours a day for the following 2 weeks. Some patients may be encouraged to wear a more flexible elastic girdle type of garment during the latter 2 weeks.
- Getting up and moving around is a must. YOU MUST WALK THE NIGHT OF SURGERY EVEN IF JUST TO THE BATHROOM. THIS IS DONE TO HELP PREVENT BLOOD CLOTS.
- DRINK A LOT OF FLUIDS!!, (UNTIL YOU URINATE.)
- Eat a good diet. Consume low carbohydrates, good protein and vegetable mix.
- Use Tylenol or pain medicine as needed. (NO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICINES FOR 3 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY.) If pain on one side continues to worsen despite pain medicine, please call the office at 409-883-5600. If urgent, you will be provided with a number to Dr. Hah’s cell phone.
- Continue to take Vitamin C during the course of healing.
- You can shower starting the 72 hours after surgery. No bathing in a bathtub, swimming or hot tubbing until released by Dr. Hah.
- Expect the liposuction areas to become firm and hardened over the following weeks. This is normal and a needed part of the inflammatory process for the skin to tighten over the areas. You can massage the areas as tolerated.
- Patients are encouraged to get back to as much activity as soon as possible. Walking, going back to work, shopping, going about town are all encouraged. No super strenuous activity for 2 weeks.
- Walking is very important!!! You must begin walking immediately the day after your surgery. Walking 40 minutes a day-5 days a week is highly recommended for superior results. This is especially so during the first 6 weeks. After that, we recommend walking 30 minutes three (3) times a week to maintain your shape
- If Lovenox is ordered, use the injections as directed.
Breast Augmentation
- Leave coban wrap on until the next day follow up.
- Sleep on 2-3 pillows for 1 week.
- You may shower in 24 hours but NO bathing or soaking sutures for 10 days.
- Hold off using deodorant or creams under arms for 3 days if incision is in armpit.
- Use pain medicine as needed.
- Continue your antibiotics.
- No strenuous activity for 1 week and no heavy lifting or running for 4 weeks.
- No mouth to nipple contact and no hot tubs for 3 months.
- NO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICINES FOR 3 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY. Only tylenol or pain medicine prescribed by Dr. Hah.
Fat Transfer/Volumetric Midface Lift
- Sleep or lay down with head elevated at least 30 degrees or higher for first 7 days.
- For the first 48 hours, use ice packs over the transfer areas, with 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off.
- Take your antibiotic as directed.
- Four (4) times a day, use the polysporin or bacitricin ointment over the injection sites to keep very moist.
- You can clean the areas gently with hydrogen peroxide and q-tips.
- Use Tylenol or pain medicine as needed. These procedures are not usually very painful. If pain on one side continues to worsen despite pain medicine, please call Dr. Hah at the number that will be provided to you.
- No strenuous activity for 5 days.
- You can wash your hair as you normally would in 48 hours
